Session title : Addressing Choline Deficiency in Intestinal Failure: Clinical Implications and Management Strategies for Patients Dependent on Parenteral Support.

Speakers : Francisca Joly, MD, PhD; Palle Jeppesen, MD, PhD; and Tim Vanuytsel, MD, PhD

Program Description:

Choline is an essential nutrient critical to cell membrane integrity, lipid transport, neurotransmitter synthesis, and DNA repair. However, it remains absent from most parenteral nutrition (PN) formulations. Emerging evidence reveals that approximately 80% of patients dependent on parenteral support are choline-deficient, with nearly two-thirds exhibiting liver dysfunction including steatosis and cholestasis. This gap in clinical practice carries serious consequences for both pediatric and adult populations.

This INSIGHTS IF educational session brings together expert clinicians to address the prevalence, consequences, and importance of choline replacement in PN-dependent patients. Attendees will explore the biochemistry of choline metabolism, the pathophysiology of deficiency-related hepatic injury, and evidence-based supplementation strategies.

The session will also feature an overview of THRIVE-3 (NCT06910943), a Phase 2b/3 registrational trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of intravenous Choline Chloride in adolescent and adult patients with intestinal failure receiving long-term parenteral support.

Session title : Taurolidine: The Silver Bullet Against Catheter-Related Infections.

Speakers : Jakub Víšek & Samford Wong

Program Description:

How can we maintain long-term venous access in patients with intestinal failure? How can we prevent infections, arguably the most dangerous complications in central-venous catheters?

The answer to these questions may lie in taurolidine, an antimicrobial agent with broad antibacterial and antifungal efficacy.

At the “Insights Intestinal Failure” conference, two experts will share their perspective on the matter.

You are very welcome to attend our industry symposium “Taurolidine: The Silver Bullet Against Catheter-Related Infections”. Jakub Víšek, MD, Ph.D. and Dr. Samford Wong will talk about the use of taurolidine-based lock solutions both as a well-established standard and in new fields where infections still hinder treatment success. The common goal is to accelerate progress and thereby reduce morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs.
